Founder John Pavlovich
John Pavlovich purchased AWL Industries, Inc. in 1979, less than a decade after emigrating from Croatia. John apprenticed with his father in Croatia as a sheet metal worker and plumber. At 18 he left his town and went to a coastal town of Rijeka to find his way in the world. He worked in Germany before moving to America. John’s work ethic and craftsmanship are the founding principles upon which AWL Industries still operates.
Settled in Brooklyn, NY
AWL started in a 2000 sq.ft. garage at 108 Frost Street, Brooklyn, then moved to a 5,500 square foot shop on Hausman Street for several years. To make AWL more stable John Pavlovich purchased a 25,000 s.f. building at 500 Morgan Avenue in 1985. Although he was hard of hearing and had difficulty communicating he made many friends in the industry. They liked him because he was personable and dependable. John Pavlovich personified the American dream of hard work leading to success.
